He also served as the Chief Technology Officer for the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing from 2016 to 2019. This center worked to enhance the commercialization potential of basic university research and to expand current manufacturing research to non-traditional areas such as cyber-physical security and human-centric manufacturing. During his tenure at Virginia Tech, he founded the Center for Innovation Based Manufacturing. “The College, UGA and Athens offer a unique ecosystem to integrate learning, research, innovation and entrepreneurship as a key economic development driver.”Ĭamelio’s research interests include intelligent manufacturing systems, cyber-physical security for manufacturing, and data mining and statistical learning applications for manufacturing processes and systems. “I am excited to join the College of Engineering and contribute to its integration into UGA’s innovation initiatives,” said Camelio. He received a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Universidad Católica de Chile. in mechanical engineering and a master’s degree in industrial and operations engineering from the University of Michigan. He also serves as Virginia Tech’s director of strategic industry and state partnerships for advanced manufacturing initiatives.
